UBDC team wins a top award at the ACM SIGSPATIAL conference

A team of researchers from UBDC have won a top award at the ACM SIGSPATIAL international conference in Atlanta, USA.
The ACM GISCup 2024 competition asked entrants to examine the 'Optimal Minimum Deployment of Electric Vehicle Charging Station Networks' to ensure equitable and efficient access for all users.

The UBDC team - Zixin Feng, Xinyan Xian, Yahya Gamal, supervised by Qunshan Zhao and Alison Heppenstall - developed a three-phase public charger deployment strategy to maximise coverage of local travel demand and EV ownership in Georgia, USA while minimising deployment in areas with high electricity outage potential.
Their award winning conference paper will be available online soon at the address: https://doi.org/10.1145/3678717.3700831.

Turning Geospatial Data into Planning Decisions: Evaluating a Participatory Accessibility Model for Urban Drinking Water
Urban planning increasingly uses geospatial data and spatial models to map services, estimate travel time, and identify underserved populations. However, mapped proximity does not necessarily reflect real access. In rapidly urbanising Sub-Saharan African cities, true accessibility to services such as water depends not only on location, but also on functionality, quality, affordability, waiting time, and seasonal reliability. UBDC's Oluwatimilehin Adenike Shonowo has been conducting research into these multidimensional access challenges.
