Participatory Analytics
Participatory Analytics
Co-creating just urban data futures
Participatory Analytics is the skilful integration of data-driven and participatory methods to address social inequalities and injustices. It uses mixed-methods approaches that combine urban analytics and Artificial Intelligence with participatory tools and practices, such as citizen science, participatory mapping/GIS, and participatory modelling and AI.
UBDC uses Participatory Analytics to engage meaningfully with disadvantaged communities and other stakeholders who are frequently excluded from data and at risk of being overlooked, including residents of deprived urban areas, informal settlements, and minoritised populations. Explore UBDC’s award-winning projects that combine cutting-edge data analytics with citizen participation to achieve real impact towards climate resilience and public health.

URBE Latam
URBE Latam seeks to expand and refine the understanding of risks, vulnerabilities and potentialities associated with rain-related geohazards in Latin America by rethinking how environmental risk data is produced, how it is used, and how it might enable transformations that close the implementation gap for marginalised communities.

Waterproofing Data
The Waterproofing Data project investigates the governance of water-related risks, with a focus on social and cultural aspects of data practices. The project was conducted by a highly skilled international team of researchers with multiple disciplinary backgrounds from Brazil, Germany and the UK.

CityCashTransfer
Evaluation of Urban Sustainability in Municipal Cash Transfer Programs using Digital Local Currency - a University of Glasgow Centre for International Development (GCID) Small Grant-funded project

IDEAMAPS Data Ecosystem
The IDEAMAPS Data Ecosystem project is focused on co-designing and developing a participatory data-modelling ecosystem to produce deprived area maps routinely and accurately at scale across cities in lower middle-income countries (LMIC) to support multiple local stakeholders in their decision-making.

The UBDC Local Sustainability Data Blog
Based on ongoing research at UBDC, this blog series on ‘Sustainability Data’ presents research results, debates and emerging insights which, we hope, stimulate further discussion and add value to researchers, policy makers, city managers, and government officials in general, who deal with these questions on a daily level.

Turning Geospatial Data into Planning Decisions: Evaluating a Participatory Accessibility Model for Urban Drinking Water
Urban planning increasingly uses geospatial data and spatial models to map services, estimate travel time, and identify underserved populations. However, mapped proximity does not necessarily reflect real access. In rapidly urbanising Sub-Saharan African cities, true accessibility to services such as water depends not only on location, but also on functionality, quality, affordability, waiting time, and seasonal reliability. UBDC's Oluwatimilehin Adenike Shonowo has been conducting research into these multidimensional access challenges.

UBDC research to reduce climate change impacts on health and wellbeing in Brazil’s favelas
Research led by the UBDC is aiming to reduce climate change impacts on health and wellbeing in the country’s favela urban communities.
