Balancing environment, health, and urban resilience
The Environment and Health theme examines how the places where people live, work and interact shape everyday life, our relationships with the environment, and health and wellbeing outcomes. This theme considers the role of green and blue infrastructure, access to services, housing, and opportunities for active travel in supporting healthier behaviours and better quality of life, climate and biodiversity targets and wider sustainable development goals.
A key concern of the theme is how environmental benefits and risks are distributed across different people and places. By studying how people use, value and experience different environments in cities and beyond, this theme supports better evidence for improving our environment, supporting public health and wellbeing outcomes, and creating more resilient communities in the face of climate change.
