Information Services Officer

We are seeking an excellent, user-focused information professional with strong digital skills to fill our current Information Services Officer vacancy. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing information management services at Urban Big Data Centre.

The UBDC’s Data Service focuses on the management and dissemination of complex urban data to users and involves the curation and linkage of different data sources. Under the supervision of the Centre's Senior Data Science Manager and independently, the successful applicant will work to enhance the Centre’s data collections, and provide specialist support to data programmes. They will update and maintain documentation and provide support to the Centre’s research and scientific computing staff as well as staff from other organisations making use of the UBDC data service.

Key tasks include: end user and other stakeholder engagement; maintenance, enhancement and safeguarding of digital collections through collection and curation of data; production and management of metadata; specialist support and analysis of data and system infrastructure; and maintaining awareness of new technology and best practice suitable for adoption within the Centre.

Salary will be on the Management, Professional and Administrative Grade, level 6, £28,660 - £32,236 per annum. The post is funded until 29 January 2020. Research Associate in Transport Analytics

We are recruiting for a prestigious 3 year Post-doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position in Transport Analytics to make a leading contribution to the quantitative research activities of the UKRI-ESRC funded Urban Big Data Centre (UBDC). Specifically, the role requires expertise in transport studies such as travel behaviour, shared mobility services, or connected/automated vehicles as well as analytical skills (e.g., the manipulation and analysis of diverse new forms of data).

The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary group conducting research using big, complex, administrative and naturally-occurring forms of urban data. There will be excellent opportunities to enhance quantitative and broader research skills, and to develop external networks with academic and non-academic partners.

Salary will be on the University’s Research and Teaching Grade, level 7, £35,210 - £39,610 per annum. This post is full time (35 hours per week) and has funding available for 36 months from the start date.

Data Scientists (3 posts)

As a result of its success in securing renewed funding, the Urban Big Data Centre at the University of Glasgow is seeking to appoint three data scientists with superb analytical minds to deliver a range of data services.

Funded by UKRI-ESRC, UBDC exists to promote innovative research methods and the use of novel forms of data to improve social, economic, and environmental well-being in cities. UBDC delivers analyses with demonstrable impacts on public policy, society and industry and offers essential data infrastructure in support of priority areas including transport, neighbourhoods and housing and education, skills and labour.

Successful candidates will be exposed to a range of advanced data science challenges within a leading, globally connected research centre and will have opportunities to shape their own work and professional development programmes.

The Centre is looking for creative, adaptable and self-motivated individuals with specialisms in areas including spatial data analysis and management, text and image data processing, machine learning and statistical programming. Independent of specific technical skills, successful candidates will be those that best demonstrate their qualities of curiosity, creative problem solving and communication.
