MSc in Urban Transport - Nadia's Story

[music]

TEXT: We asked students what they thought of the MSc in Urban Transport programme at the University of Glasgow.

Here's what Nadia had to say...

Why did you decide to take the course?

[music fades]

NADIA: Urban transportation has always been a very close subject that I have dealt with. I had done my degree in civil engineering, then I did my masters in urban planning and this is actually my second masters in urban transportation.

[music]

TEXT: What parts of the Masters programme have you enjoyed most?

[music fades]

NADIA: Diving into urban planning problems and then going into more into the actual urban related problems. With regards to transportation, for me this course has given me a lot of insight into the new problems that are there all over the world and not only restricted to any space, any place. So, yes, that's what I really enjoyed about this course.

TEXT: How has doing the MSc helped your career?

[music fades]

NADIA: For me, as I've done urban planning problems, I've done engineering problems but when I did this course I delved into more research. To look at viewpoints from all other research papers, from all other people's perspectives. So this has helped me to develop my career in a better form, what I want to actually pursue better, especially in regards to new innovative methods of urban transportation etc.

TEXT: Would you recommend doing an MSc in Urban Transport at the University of Glasgow?

[music fades]

NADIA: It's not a theoretical subject, it is not very technical. It's got an overview of everything, so that's another thing that I would highly recommend this course for. Because it's multi-faceted. So, it also gives you a lot of information about how we do a lot of research into the new urban-related problems and new urban-related issues all over the world. So yes, as I said, it has been a wonderful experience and I would highly, highly recommend this course to you.

[music fades]

RICHARD: Firstly, I would recommend this course because of the amazing teachers we had. They were very supportive throughout the course and they helped us with every enquiry we had. Secondly, it's a great add-on for social science students. We learnt the basics of statistics, economics and many more. Thirdly, even if you don't want to necessarily work in the transport industry, the skills which we obtain during the course are applicable elsewhere.
