Data themes

Our datasets are divided into four themes: Transport and Mobility, Housing and Property, Labour Market, and Environment. Explore the detailed datasets and discover their potential applications.

Transport and mobility

Our datasets help researchers and planners to better understand travel patterns, footfall, the public transport network, traffic flows, and cycling. This understanding can help identify problems, design solutions, and evaluate interventions.

Housing and property

Analysing market trends, property values, housing accessibility, urban development, demographic patterns, rental rates, and homeowner preferences, researchers use our datasets to better understand factors affecting the housing market to inform policy decisions, predict market shifts, and improve housing affordability and sustainability.

Labour market

With the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data related to employment, workforce dynamics, researchers can study employment rates, job vacancies, skill demands, wage trends, workforce demographics, educational qualifications, employment sectors, and labour force participation.

Environment

Studying natural processes and human impact, the environment data theme involves collecting and analysing data related to air and water quality, biodiversity, climate change, and resource consumption. You can use these rich data sources to develop strategies for sustainable resource management, climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and inform policymaking to promote a sustainable future.

Transport and mobility

We use new forms of data to better understand travel behaviour in cities. We examine how people respond to new investments in transport infrastructure and new transport services including autonomous vehicles and ride-hailing services. And we study how access to public transport varies across urban areas, how this impacts on ridership and access to other opportunities.

Smart data such as that from traffic sensors or smartphone apps can be combined with traditional data such as those from travel surveys, allowing transport researchers to investigate global challenges in transport more rigorously. We collect and validate several new forms of transport data, and use approaches such as simulation, advanced statistical modelling, and machine learning to provide actionable insights to planners, policy makers, and industry.

Housing and Property

Housing and property involves analysing various aspects related to real estate, including market trends, property values, housing accessibility, urban development, demographic patterns, rental rates, and homeowner preferences.

Researchers use the Zoopla dataset to understand factors affecting the housing market, inform policy decisions, predict market shifts, and improve housing affordability and sustainability. This research applies statistical models and utilises geographic information systems (GIS) to gain valuable insights into housing dynamics and inform stakeholders in the real estate industry and government.

Labour Market

This data theme involves the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data related to employment, workforce dynamics, and the overall job market. Researchers study aspects such as employment rates, job vacancies, skill demands, wage trends, workforce demographics, educational qualifications, employment sectors, and labour force participation.

The research, using the expansive Adzuna dataset, aims to understand the complexities of labour markets, identify patterns, predict future trends, and assess the impact of various factors such as technological advancements, policy changes, and economic fluctuations.

Environment

Environment and sustainability focuses on studying natural processes and human impact. It involves collecting and analysing data related to air and water quality, biodiversity, climate change, and resource consumption. Researchers use this data to develop strategies for sustainable resource management, climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and informed policy-making to promote a sustainable future.
