Professor Eduardo H. Diniz from Escola de Administrao de Empresas de Sao Paulo will present at this research seminar organised by UBDC and Urban Studies at the University of Glasgow.
Cash Transfer Programmes (CTPs) have been part of global social policies for more than two decades and there are multiple studies pointing to their positive impact on fighting poverty. While most CTPs operate at national level, many municipal or city-level CTPs have launched in recent years, in particular as a response to COVID-19. These localised CTPs aim to alleviate poverty and to boost local economies impacted by the pandemic. This research will explore the emerging phenomenon of municipal CTPs through the question: how do we design, implement and evaluate city-level CTPs that align with sustainable development goals and contribute to the alleviation of poverty? The research will also focus on the emergence of blockchain and cryptocurrencies that can leverage local CTP initiatives in developed and developing countries, by providing relevant and needed technologies to improve accountability and local digital payment systems.
Biography
Eduardo Diniz has been a Professor at Escola de Administrao de Empresas de Sao Paulo at Fundao Getulio Vargas (EAESP FGV) for 23 years. Eduardo became recognised for his involvement with “digital financial inclusion”, publishing about transformative impacts of digital technologies in society in international conferences and journals as well as participating in professional meetings of Brazilian and international organizations. Eduardo was editor-in-chief of the most important journal in the Management field in Brazil and Head of the Technology and Data Science (TDS) Department at EAESP FGV.
