6:00pm - 8:30pm
The Glasgow School of Art - 167 Renfrew Street, Glasgow, UK G3 6RQ

We are pleased to exhibit at the Digging into Data event, where a representative will be on hand to answer questions about our work, and we will display a visualisation using a selection of data from the integrated Multimedia City Data project.

The Digging into Data Challenge is an international research grants competition sponsored by leading funding agencies from Canada, the Netherlands, the UK and the US which aims to explore how ‘big data’ changes the research landscape for the social sciences and humanities. There now exists an enormous amount of data available for research in the social sciences and humanities, ranging from digitised books, newspapers and music to data generated through online interactions and mobile communications, administrative data from public agencies, and commercial data from private sector organisations. Digging into Data challenges the research community to help shape research infrastructure for 21st-century scholarship by investigating what new tools, techniques and methods for searching, analysing and understanding these data.

The Showcase

The evening of the 27th brings together a selection of data projects lead by researchers from across the fields of the arts, humanities and social sciences. They will be presenting a showcase of their work and outputs to provoke, inform, and provide an insight into what a wide variety of approaches can bring to data and data driven research. This event is a chance to stimulate creativity, catalyse connections and promote debate within this rapidly evolving area of research. The newly renovated School of Art has been selected to host, with the aim of providing a platform that will engage and stimulate thought over drinks and nibbles.
